useless route finder!
further to my (ignored) complaint that your route finder is determined to send me 20 miles out of my way on my 12 mile trip to work, I have tried to get it to recognise that the best (or is it? - the **** thing won't let me find out!) way to birmingham uni from stafford is straight down the m6. it insists on sending me dowm the m5 even if I ask it to go via the a38m. I'm sure this site is great for some folk - london & home counties????, but for staffordshire, it's ****.

Re: useless route finder!
Hi
Firstly we aim to respond to queries as soon as possible so we are sorry if you feel you were ignored.
The routing engine we use works well for most people, but inevitably some people's routes differ from what the routing engine considers the most direct. To ensure that our members are able to save the route they want, we have put in the option of via points. We find this works well in most cases.
Please email us - mary@keepmoving.co.uk and we'll do our best to assist you.
Best wishes

The VMS signs have A12 delays 7th Septembered to display the message (or something similar)

It doesn't say what might be causing the delay, obviously not a 20 mile / 24 hr roadwork marathon. Anyone any ideas? My best guess is an abnormal load but I can't find any info on it.

Average speed
Is anybody else fed up with this '30' average speed limit on the A316 between Sunbury Cross and Apex corner. I know I am. I stick to the 30mph because firstly I know it is for the safety of the men working on the road, but secondly I do not want a fine and possible points on my license.
Is my speedometer not working correctly! as I find a lots of cars, vans and bikes pass me doing a fair speed. Are they not afraid or are the cameras not working? Does anybody know?
I was coming home last night 'Southbound' around 9pm, hardly any traffic on that stretch. Nobody working on the road. I could have done with knowing if I could have travelled faster than '30'.
I would appreciate a reply from anybody with any experience. Or even somebody that has been caught going over the limit.
Thanks
Jenn

Local Rate or not?
Can you clarify the pricing on calling the 0845 number? The website says "First call charged at local rate" which means what? First call ever, First call in a day. Also what is the rate after thar 'first' call?

petrol prices only directly on the route
It would be good if there was an option to set the site to only show petrol prices only directly on the route. At the moment it shows those that involve leaving the motorway. Ideally you could have a setting that allowed the user to select 'only on route' within 1/4 mile diversion, etc.

Re: petrol prices only directly on the route
Rob,
Thank you for your comment. Currently a search returns results within a one minuate drive of that route. The reason we've included fuel stations just off a motorway, is to give our members a choice of paying motorway service station prices or using a station which is just off a junction. It's an extra way of saving some money.
If you have any further queries, please email us - mary@keepmoving.co.uk.

Re: Cheap fuel
Dear Administrator
I don't like stopping to fill up with fuel on my journey if I can avoid it I prefer to keep going. I usually fill up near home so I have enough fuel before I set off.
I do about 40k miles per year so I fill up pretty frequently.
I accept that some people will look for fuel on their journey and are happy to do so but there are also loads of people who want to know where the cheapest fuel is in a particular area.
It would be good to have a choice of road and area.
It seems that lots of people have requested this...so maybe it really is a good idea.
Meantime I'll be disloyal and check on another website.
Everything else is brill thankyou!

Re: Cheap fuel
Wouldn't let me add a comment of my own, so adding to this one
Your obviously trying to compete with the other good website that gives you prices in a specific location. Your idea of finding petrol stations on a route is a very good idea. However
a) It would be good for you to also offer the option of a fixed location search - then we would most probably use just your website and not both!
b) The route search for petrol stations seems limited to a certain distance from your route. It would be good to have the option of how far from your route you would be wiling to travel eg 1mile, 5 miles, 10 miles. Also, the route search has limtations for moterways as although a petrol station will show up as next to a moterway, you might need to go a long distance to the next junction before being able to access that petrol station.
Being able to download to a Sat Nav would be very useful as well as mobile website
Keep up the good work though!

Re: Cheap fuel
Thanks for the comment. It's a request we seem to be getting a lot, so I thought I'd like to detail the thought process that went into the first version of the tool.
Y'see, KeepMoving and the other site attract different kinds of visitors. Visitors to the other site come there solely for the petrol price information. KeepMoving's visitors come for traffic, and the petrol is offered in addition to this. We've integrated it with the existing site features to make it handy and relevant.

Re: Cheap fuel
Second reason we did it why we did was that we used *the other site*. I put in my home postcode, and it came back with some obscure little petrol station way out in an industrial park in Old Trafford. It was no use. I wasn't going to go on a little adventure to save a few quid. I wanted to
But now, after about a month of looking at the site traffic, turns out that people are visiting it just for the petrol prices. And some people (like you grackliff) will happily pootle about for the sake of a few quid.
We've just taken on another developer here at KeepMoving. We've got plans, and they're being shaped by your feedback.

Why closure of the Elizabeth Bridge?
What chaos at the Dartford Tunnel on Tuesday pm 12 August!! Does anyone know why the bridge was closed, with the result that all southbound traffic was diverted through one of the Tunnel bores? The queue southbound towards the bridge was about 20 miles long and not moving. Hope they all got home in time for a nightcap.
I heard it was an accident but it must have been bad to close the bridge.

More appropriate cheap fuel results
Discovered your site for the first time today...
Following on from Jezmck earlier comment it would make a lot of sense to be able to have a field under the vehicle section of the registered user's profile that allows you to specify fuel type - Unleaded, Deisel, Both (if more than one vehicle).
This would then be used to automatically filter the cheapest fuel results that would be of better relevence to the user.

check fuel prices search
Would it not be easier to be able to enter a postcode or town to find the location as some roads are very long and therefore the result could be many miles away from the location you want the cheapest prices for?
And while I'm at it why must you have to enter a motorway and junction details before being allowed to make a comment. Can we not have a comment type "non-road" related which doesn't force you to enter these details?

Thank you very much for your comments - we value feedback very highly.
The main purpose of our 'fuel checker' took is to find the cheapest fuel along a route that you are already taking. Therefore to get the best results from it, save your most regular journeys as routes, then go to the 'fuel checker' box and select the route you're interested in.
As for the discussion board - tying your comment to a particular road and junction encourages people to share experiences and tips.

Calling Traffic Number
Dear Adminstrator,
Is is possible for the traffic reports to be related to my route entered into the web site. The reason for the question is that esp. For the M25 you have to wait sometime for a good couple of mins to get to your junction as it goes around the M25. It seems sensible to give the user an option for reporting traffic on your route rather than just by road?
Thanks

How can I look for cheap petrol in an area, rather than on a set route?
Guildford's not a big town and for the sake of saving a few quid on a tank of petrol I'd be happy to alter my route by a few hundred yards but your cheap petrol search only looks on an immediate route.

SMS single alert
I had a problem getting these to work at all, is it correct I can only have one active ? I;deals I'd like a to & from alerts. I understand the texts are free but it is a hard choice to make when most journeys have 2 directions ! Thanks

Re: SMS single alert
Hi
Thank you for your comment. As we send all sms alerts at a cost to ourselves we are unable to justify offering two a day to each customer. We find that the daily emails work well as they are sent whether or not there are any problems on your route. The sms alerts are only sent if there is a problem on your route. We find that most of our members are near a computer before they set off for home in the evening so are able to check their emails and keepmoving, where as in the morning its far more convenient to just receive an sms if there is a problem.
We hope this helps to answer your query. If you have any more questions or feedback, please email mary@keepmoving.co.uk.
Best wishes

Godalming
Why does the A2983 Godalming and finish in Godalming on your route plan? What do you have against Shoreham?
